Fintech industry in 2020
Fintech ecosystem continues to evolve in 2020. Considered that only 37% of the global banking system has a fintech product there is still a big way ahead. According to a KPMP survey there is a big gap of B2C usage of a fintech product. It is in BRIC states above 80% and in Europe and US between 35-50%. Fintech industry is very diverse and fast changing environment. The fintech ecosystem found its birth with the first generation in payment systems like Paypal. In the second generation there are 360 degree services offered now. The services spectrum is wide spread from B2B services to B2C services like; retail banking services, payments, wallets, wealth management, Accounting, security/protection, lending and insurance.
Recent investments in Fintech
The deal flow this year started actively that the acquisitions in first two months are already above $29 bn registered by cb insights. If we look at the development between 2018- 2020, more than 8% of the promising fintech startups (top250) have risen its value to a unicorn (valued >$1b+) and very surprisingly none of them shut down. In a just one year row they raised $15.3 Bn across 152 rounds with 52 mega-rounds. 2019 was a peak investment year of fintech with a global total investment about $ 73.5 bn. Whilst 2009 the over 70% of the fintech investments made in US, just ten years later more than 55% was in Asia. This is parallel to the global investment & economic power axis shift phenomenon from US to Asia.
